Radio and digital media company Townsquare Media Group said Monday it has acquired three music web sites and a site for comics lovers from online giant AOL.
The company bought country music site The Boot, hip-hop destination The BoomBox and heavy metal-focused NoiseCreep, as well as fanboys site ComicsAlliance. Financial terms weren’t disclosed.
The three music sites were part of AOL Music, which AOL decided to shutter in April as it sells non-core assets.
Townsquare, whose team includes former AOL content business head Bill Wilson as executive vp, owns 243 radio stations and a range of web sites, including ScreenCrush, PopCrush and Taste of Country. Its music and entertainment sites reach more than 52 million U.S. monthly unique visitors, it said.
Last year, Townsquare acquired the music blog network formerly operated by music streaming service MOG. Wilson’s AOL team created all four sites before he moved to Townsquare in 2010.
Said Townsquare chairman and CEO Steven Price: “The acquisition of these assets from AOL represents the continued rapid growth of Townsquare Media’s portfolio of owned and operated music and entertainment websites.” He added that the deal “propels our scale beyond today’s 52 million U.S. monthly unique visitors, allowing advertisers and agencies even greater access to this highly engaged and demographically desirable audience.”
As part of the transaction, some AOL Music ComicsAlliance staff will start working for Townsquare.
