SACRAMENTO-

Think BIG Sacramento, Mayor Kevin Johnson’s arena initiative group, met with the Sacramento region’s Builders Association to discuss their “Home Court Advantage” report Tuesday.

The report compares and contrasts the Sacramento and Seattle markets during the two decades both cities had NBA teams.

“We have unprecedented support for this team,” Think BIG Executive Director Kunal Merchant said.

The report says Sacramento had better attendance in 20 of 23 seasons both cities had teams. Merchant highlighted that Kings attendance was up, even if the Sonics had more wins.

Merchant’s group also noted that Sacramento has a 100 percent market share for the NBA, as the Kings are the only pro team in town.

The group opted to use a Jan. 15 Seattle Times report to prove their point: “You might think that Seattle is a basketball-crazy town. But you’d be wrong.”
