POLLOCK PINES-

The King Fire’s growth slowed significantly in the last few days, thanks to some much-needed rain.

By Monday morning, the U.S. Forest Service said the fire had burned 97,099 acres and was 89 percent contained.

With rain out of the forecast and temperatures once again rising, firefighters expect the King Fire to pick back up but crews say any significant spread is unlikely.

Since starting Sept. 13, the King Fire has destroyed 12 homes and 68 other buildings.
