A “suspicious package” at Greenback and San Juan in Citrus Heights had that road shut down for hours Wednesday.

It turned out to only be a briefcase but after what happened at the Boston Marathon, it also proved to be much more than that.

When police blew the brief case open, the gathered crowd remarked that it was echoes of Boston in our own backyard.

It’s not in that anyone was hurt. And it’s not that anyone was searching for an evil bomber ion Citrus Heights. But it is that everyone we spoke to was on edge.

“I mean, I didn’t know what to think with what happened in Boston. So I think they handled it pretty well, if you ask me. Safe,” said Andrey Kinda. Kinda’s car was parked in the zone evacuated by police.

Police say, to protect people and property, their approach hasn’t changed since Boston.

“To be perfectly honest, this is the response that we would usually have for this type of call. It may be that citizens are more vigilant at this time,” said Lt. Alex Turcotte of the Citrus Heights Police.

Police blew the briefcase open, leaving shredded papers and shattered pens behind.

As officers worked, Greenback Lane was shut down between San Juan and Mariposa in Citrus Heights. Parts of the store parking lot and neighboring apartment complex were closed down too.
