Take a cover of OneRepublic’s “Counting Stars,” throw in a cast of Disney’s most recognizable villains, give it a twist, and you’ve got the bones of a wicked new video collecting hits on YouTube.
The likes of Captain Hook, Cruella de Vil, Maleficent, Hades, Scar and Jafar show up for an unusual new promo posted on Oh My Disney, timed perfectly for Halloween. This isn’t “Counting Stars,” it’s “Counting Scars.” And the bad guys get to stay in character throughout, with lines rewritten for the occasion. Take this lyric from Scar: “Lately I been, I been gettin’ sleep (hey!)/ Dreaming about how evil I could be.”

For the large part of the year, the team behind the clip claim to be a “seemingly normal group of twentysomethings.” They admit they’ve “been watching the annual scariest villain of the year countdown, and they’re none too pleased that once again Scar has won the coveted title. An elaborate set-up (we’ll admit) to determine once and for all which villain was the most fearsome this year.”
For the record, OneRepublic’s original version of “Counting Stars” was released in June 2013 and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. No Disney villains appeared in the clip.
