Luke Bryan went home with the entertainer of the year award at the 48th annual Academy of Country Music Awards, held Sunday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
But Miranda Lambert was the night’s big winner with three awards, including female vocalist of the year. She also won single record of the year and song of the year for “Over You,” which she wrote with her husband, Blake Shelton, about his late brother.
“As a songwriter, having your song and your lyrics recognized by your peers is pretty much as good as it gets,” Lambert said onstage. “And I’m so thankful for being in this genre of country music, every single time someone’s nominated, I just cheer, because I love everybody to death. So thank you for accepting me as a song writer, not just as a singer, because that means the world to me.”
Lambert and Shelton also were up for the fan voted-entertainer of the year award alongside Bryan, Jason Aldean and Taylor Swift, who was the favorite after winning the award the past two years. (Swift, who was up for four awards, went home empty-handed.)
Aldean, meanwhile, was named male vocalist of the year, while his collaboration with Bryan and Eric Church, “The Only Way I Know,” won vocal event of the year.
