Rick Springfield is writing of a novel. Of course he is.
The “Jessie’s Girl” singer and former General Hospital star will release Magnificent Vibration in May 2014, publisher Simon & Schuster announced.
No, it has nothing to do with the Beach Boys.
It’s the story of a man who gets “a 1-800 phone connection to God via an inscription in a mysterious self-help book.”
Springfield said in a release announcing the project that “The only good grades I ever got in school … were for creative writing … but then my career took a different path.”
Writing the book came easily to him. “I’m still not quite sure where it came from, but once I got going, it practically wrote itself.”
This is Springfield’s second book — after his 2010 memoir, Late, Late at Night — but his first novel.
Reflecting the enduring pull of his stardom, the book made an appearance on The New York Times best-seller list and received generally warm reviews.
The 63-year-old former teen idol is having a bit of a career renaissance of late. He was a featured player — and, really, the best and most captivating interview — in Dave Grohl’s recent documentary on the famed Sound City recording studio.
He has also done guest turns on Californication and Hawaii Five-O.
Over the course of his musical careers, Springfield has had seventeen top-40 hits and sold more than 25 million records.
Springfield was repped by David Patterson (Foundry Literary + Media) and Dana Borowitz (UTA) on the deal. Terms were not announced.
