SACRAMENTO-
Even before today’s formal announcement that a sale agreement for the Sacramento Kings NBA team has been reached, the notion of a new downtown arena has sparked interest in the Downtown Plaza site.
The Downtown Partnership, which works to boost business in the area, says it’s been getting a flurry of inquires.
“Already in the last three days we’ve had investors outside of the Sacramento area saying give us maps of vacancies within 3 to 5 blocks of this facility, tell us what opportunities exist on connections and line of sight of these buildings, retailers saying we want to be close to it, ” said Michael Alt, executive director of the Downtown Partnership.
City development officials say existing owners of properties are trying to see how they can redo their properties to take advantage of the new arena.
While there are many obstacles left, there seems to be a feeling that the biggest obstacle, the sale of the team to a Sacramento investment group, has been overcome.
