LONDON — Daft Punk‘s single “Get Lucky” has become the first 2013-released single to top one million sales in the U.K., the Official Charts Company said on Friday.
The single, which also features N.E.R.D’s Pharrell Williams and Chic’s Nile Rodgers, is only the 136th single in the 60-year history of the U.K.’s official singles chart to join the million-sellers honor roll.
The track hit one million sales in its 69th day on sale in the U.K., cementing its position as the biggest selling single of 2013 so far.

The success also gives Daft Punk’s main collaborators on “Get Lucky” their first U.K. million-plus seller, too.
Despite a 40-year hit-making career, producer Nile Rodgers had never previously surpassed the million mark in the U.K.
“The fact that “Get Lucky” has sold a million copies in the U.K. is one thing, but to do it in 69 days?! I’m awestruck,” Rodgers told OfficialCharts.com.
Rodgers said no one working on the record was prepared for a hit this big.
“I’ve had big records and No. 1s; I have had records that were No. 1 in the United States but nowhere else … I’ve had records which have done well [in the U.K.], but not in the States. But to have this ubiquitous record that’s a hit everywhere … It’s amazing to me. I’m out on the road and I can hear it wherever I go. I’m flabbergasted!” Rodgers said.
According to Official Charts Company CEO Martin Talbot the last time a single took less than three months to hit a million was the X-Factor U.K. winner James Arthur‘s “Impossible,” “who had the profile and impact of the X- Factor behind him.”

Pharrell Williams had also previously not passed the million-sales threshold in the U.K.
But the charts company suggests he might shortly follow up his first with a second.
Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines”, featuring Williams and U.S. rapper TI, is, in just its fifth week of release, currently close to 800,000 sales in the U.K.
According to the latest Official Charts Company sales data, a range of classic and recent hits have also passed the one million sales mark in the last month.
Titles inclued “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” by Elton John and Kiki Dee (1976), “Mysterious Girl” by Peter Andre featuring Bubbler Ranx (1995), “Use Somebody” by Kings Of Leon (2008) and “The A Team” by Ed Sheeran (2011).
Ten tracks have crossed the million-sales threshold in 2013, a roll call that also, inevitably, includes “Gangnam Style” by Psy.
Elton John’s double A-side, “Something About The Way You Look Tonight/Candle In The Wind ’97,” remains the U.K.’s biggest selling single of all-time with over 4.91 million sales since its release in 1997.
Band Aid’s 1984 charity single “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” is in second place with 3.73 million sales, while Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” has rocked to 2.4 million sales.
