VACAVILLE–

Vacaville authorities say a suspect is dead after he led police on a slow-speed chase.

Public Information Officer Mark Mazzaferro says someone called police to warn them that another man was acting suspicious.

When officers approached the man, he got in his car and led police down Ulatis Drive. That is when officers threw out spikes to get the suspect to stop.

Officers say the suspect got out of his car and approached officers with three weapons, including a knife and hammer. That is when the city says officers opened fire fatally wounding the suspect.

One witness says as officers approached the vehicle, the suspect reached for something but never got out of his car and officers opened fire.

“With the way the suspect reached over to the passenger side I would have feared for my life as well, not knowing what he was grabbing,” said witness Brian Bianchi.

Officers described the suspect as a white male in his early 20’s.
