Manufacturer's Description

Simple, safe, portable and affordable with optional traffic re-routing, the nüvi 265 is your personal travel assistant for life on the go. This simple, safety-minded navigator leads the way with turn-by-turn directions and a unique, advanced safety camera warning system to get you there on time and keep you safe on the road. Packed with up to millions of points of interest (POIs) and maps for the UK and Ireland, the 265 is compact, versatile and easy to use.

Simplicity and safety

Nüvi 265 comes preloaded with City Navigator NT map data for Europe. Simply touch the colour screen, key in your destination and nüvi takes you there with turn-by-turn spoken directions, 2-D or 3-D mapping and smooth map updates. Digital elevation maps show shaded contours for an understanding of the surrounding terrain. In addition, nüvi 265 accepts custom points of interest such as traffic blackspots and post offices and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs. With HotFix satellite prediction, Garmin calculates your position faster to get you there quicker.

'Where Am I?' gives you details about your location in a flash. Simply tap the car icon for your exact latitude and longitude coordinates, nearest address, contact details for your vehicle rescue service and directions to the closest hospital, police or petrol station.

Nüvi 265's advanced Cyclops safety camera database helps you travel with the confidence you are driving safely, responsibly and legally. As you approach one of hundreds of fixed, mobile and temporary safety cameras, variable limit or red light speed cameras across Europe, it gives an audible alert, overspeed warning and speed limit information.

Nüvi 265 also comes with Garmin Lock, an inventive anti-theft protection system that uses GPS to lock to a secure location of your choice.

Enhanced navigation

The nüvi 265 comes with photo navigation to revolutionise your sightseeing. Plan trips to landmarks and attractions simply and easily before you set off. Choose and save location-tagged photographs from millions of Google Panoramio pictures in a wish-list of places to visit. Then, at your leisure, select a photo destination on your Garmin for turn-by-turn directions straight to the scene.

Other built-in travel tools include a JPEG picture viewer, world travel clock with time zones, a currency and measurement converter, calculator and more.

This is the first SatNav I have had and I looked long and hard at different specs from different companies. This does what I want it to do and is so much better announcing street names. Didn't find Wide version necessary, as screen is bright and clear. Auto switch to night mode. Where Am I? great. I paid more than the current price, but it is worth it. Only 1 small niggle - it gives road name, if it has one, over route number. Oh, and I discovered that many of the screen protectors you can buy won't work. But how did I live without this??

Received my brand new Garmin Nuvi Sat-Nav only to discover that it did not work. Yes, did read the instruction booklet first. Very disappointed.

I think this has all been said before but it's worth repeating. This little unit is packed with features, however the sound quality is so poor I sent it back. What is the point of Bluetooth if you can't hear the caller? I sent it back and got a TomTom with a lower spec which has been excellent.

Having now used this sat nav for more a month and having used it in Barcelona, I think I am ready to write a review for this. I think this is a very good sat nav for the price and is excellent value for money. There are some great features like bluetooth to connect your phone which is very useful. You can download loads of sounds and images to customise it ..It covers all europe maps though you will not be able to fit it onto the device. If you buy an extra SD card to go with it you can download the whole europe map, if not you will only be able to download certain regions onto the device. It picks up a satellite pretty quickly and has a great anti-theft 4 digit pin code to keep it safe. You can also download hundreds of POI's through out Europe and UK to help you find anything you want.

Best of all, its integration with Google Panaramio and google maps is brilliant. From Panaramio, you can download photos of any place directly onto your sat nav and it will be added to your favourites for you to drive there instantly (I downloaded all Barcelona photos and used this in the pedestrian mode to go there directly as I was not driving). Also on google maps, you can click on send to GPS and it instantly sends any address location to your device. Both great features I think.

It has some negative points though ..hence the 4 stars:-

    1. I have noticed on normal routes even if you have to drive straight with the map showing a a slight bend in the road, it says turn left or right particularly on roundabouts. This is very confusing.

    2. The pedestrian mode is completely useless (Atleast in Barcelona) as it doesn't know which direction we are facing and takes ages to come to terms with the route or direction. I found this to be big let down in Barcelona as I was planning to use it regularly for walking around.

Great value and great product with bluetooth for mobile invaluable and easy to update for full European usage plus product very well put together

This is a great product. It is very easy to use and also gives you an option to avoid traffic. The Bluetooth on this product is a very useful feature. This is fantastic value for money. But the screen on this sat nav is very small. I would suggest buying the widescreen version. It is the exact same as the normal model but with clearer and bigger writing.

Simple to start up after getting it out of the box. Place names in Northern Ireland get a little mangled occasionally. Bluetooth with my mobile doesn't give a quality sound reproduction but that's not really a key feature as far as I'm concerned.Otherwise classy sat nav.
