ROME — Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage will be the third recipient of the Ischia Global Film & Music Fest’s Ischia Legends Award, festival founder Pascal Vicedomini said Tuesday.
Cage, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of an alcoholic screenwriter who lost his will to live in the 1995 romantic drama Leaving Las Vegas, will join fellow actor Samuel L. Jackson and producer Arnon Milchan as recipients of the festival’s top honor.
Mike Figgis, who directed Cage in Leaving Las Vegas, was president of the last Capri Hollywood Film Fest, the other Bay of Naples island festival Vicedomini founded.
In addition to honoring Cage at the July 14-21 event, he festival will also hold the Italian premiere screening of The Frozen Ground, a Scott Walker thriller that stars Cage as a police officer who partners with Vanessa Hudgens, an erotic dancer and near victim of a serial killer (played by John Cusack), to track the killer down. Hudgens, along with producers Curtis James Jackson III (the rap star known as 50 Cent) and Randall Emmett, will also be on hand for the screening, Ischia officials said.
In a statement, Vicedomini praised Cage for his “daring performances and fearless choice of roles.”
The 11-year-old festival will present the prize to Cage in a gala ceremony July 19, followed by the screening of The Frozen Ground.
