TOKYO – With a new head honcho in Yasushi Shiina, the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) is to reorganize its main sections for its 26th edition, and introduce a new logo and slogan.
Under the banner of “A Films-first Festival,” a nod to its original slogan “Films come first,” TIFF will launch an Asian Future section to replace the Winds of Asia-Middle East. The new section will be open to directors who have two or fewer films under their belt, and will aim to showcase up and coming Asian filmmakers as they compete for the Best Asian Future Film Award.
The new logo incorporates a red heart and a movie camera, which organizers say represents filmmakers and Japanese hospitality.
An updated World Focus section will be comprised of films from around the globe that have created a buzz on the international film festival circuit.
This section also will present outstanding films from Asia, Europe, and the United States.
The 26th TIFF runs from Oct 17 – 25 of at Roppongi Hills and other central Tokyo venues.
The accompanying TIFFCOM market will run Oct 22-24 at Odaiba in Tokyo Bay.
