ReelzChannel is adding a late-night show to its lineup.
In keeping with the theme of the movie-centric channel, The Big Picture will offer Reelz viewers an irreverent and comedic look at the world of TV and film in a watercooler-style chat format. Lauren Sanchez and Alex Cambert have been tapped to co-host the series, which will cover everything from casting news to the latest film releases. The weekly show is being produced by Reelz’ in-house studio, and is expected to premiere later this month.
In addition to hosting, Sanchez will serve as an executive producer on the hourlong talk show. She brings with her a résumé rich with on-air experience, most recently hosting such shows as Good Day LA and Extra. Sanchez has played the part of a newscaster in several films, too, including We Bought a Zoo, Fantastic Four and The Day After Tomorrow.
And Cambert is no stranger to the late-night format, having developed and hosted Mas Vale Tarde con Alex Cambert for Telemundo and done man-on-the-street segments for The Tonight Show. He has hosted such events as the Latin Billboard Music Awards, and served as a lifestyle and entertainment correspondent for Good Morning America.
The show will join a schedule that currently includes Beverly Hills Pawn, Bomb Girls and the Steven Seagal drama True Justice. The latter was the first original scripted series acquired by Reelz, which entered the original programming space in 2011 with the acquisition of The Kennedys.
With the addition of Big Picture, Reelz joins a growing list of cable networks that have added a topical late-night show to their lineup in a bid to be timely, relevant and DVR proof. Among the others: FX’s Totally Biased With W. Kamau Bell, Bravos’ Watch What Happens: Live and MTV’s Nikki & Sara Live.
Both Cambert and Sanchez, who will appear in the upcoming film White House Down, are repped by WME.
