Cornwell is a finance executive with stints in film, television and broadcasting. After launching and managing 40 international TV channels for Disney, she left in 2005 to become CFO of Sparrowhawk, which was sold to NBC Universal at the end of 2007.
Since 2008, Cornwell has been CFO of distributor Alliance Films and led the exit process when its owners decided to sell the business.
BFI chairman Greg Dyke said: “Alison and Tim will help the BFI realise its ambitions and steer a path through the challenges it faces, particularly in the changing landscape of distribution and exhibition.
