FORT STEWART, Georgia –

A 20-year-old soldier from Sacramento has died while serving in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense says Specialist Ray Ramirez died Saturday from injuries he got when his unit was attacked by an improvised explosive device.

Ramirez served with the 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, based in Fort Stewart, Georgia.

According to Fort Stewart, Ramirez joined the Army in March 2011, and this was his first deployment.
