FAIRFIELD-

The Sales Family’s beloved, 800-pound pet pig somehow got loose last week and wandered into an area where it’s legal for sportsmen to hunt wild pigs.

“You know, it is only a pig but when you live on a farm, your animals are like your dogs,” said the pig’s owner, Amber Sales. “And he was. Rufus was part of the family.”

Rufus had run the Sales’ Fairfield yard for nine years.

Sales says she just wants Rufus returned.

“We’re a hunting family and I would be mortified if I killed someone’s pet,” Sales said. “I would make every effort to return it.”

James Myers filed this report.
