SACRAMENTO-

Construction on California’s high-speed rail project will be able to start soon, now that a contract has been awarded for the nearly $1 billion first-stage project.

The High-Speed Rail Authority approved a representative to work out the final terms of the first major construction contract for the project with Tutor Perini/Zachry/Parsons. The total contract is not to exceed $985,142,530.

The final contract for package #1 is expected to be signed in the next few weeks. This portion of the project stretches 29 miles between Madera to Fresno.

The joint venture Tutor Perini/Zachry/Parsons was ranked as the top bid from the five design-build teams that competed for the first-stage contract.
