ELK GROVE –

The traffic flow around Franklin High School and Johnson Middle school in Elk Grove should get moving again, but with the threat of a fine.

FOX40 caught up with Edmond Goolan as he was picking up his son. He says the traffic there has been terrible for years.

“You should see it, it’s gridlocked. Traffic in the morning, the afternoon, it’s a nightmare,” Goolan said.

Parents are now being told to pick up and drop off students at nearby Bartholomew Sports Complex or Morse Park.

New signs will be going up soon, clearly showing the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., and 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. are “no stopping” times.

The restricted zones are on residential streets in the Sorrentino Drive and Mosiac Way neighborhoods.

If drivers do pull over, stop and break the new law, they will be cited a $63 ticket.

The Elk Grove Police Department is giving people in the community a 30-day grace period, which started Monday, for everyone to get used to the new signs, before they start issuing tickets.

Katie Hackett filed this report.
