TORONTO – The CBC has acquired the popular Canadian web series Ruby Skye P.I. for broadcast.
The public broadcaster signed a cross-platform deal for the digital-first series from Jill Golick’s Story 2.OH shingle that centers on a quick-thinking teenage detective Ruby Skye, played by Madison Cheeatow, and her tech-savvy sister (Marlee Maslove).
The CBC is licensing ten episodes of Ruby Skye P.I. at 5 and 6 minutes each to debut online at Kids’ CBC in winter 2014.
That will be followed by a broadcast of the Internet TV series as a one hour drama on the main CBC network.

The CBC recently did a separate deal to air the seven-part comedy web series Everyone’s Famous as a 45-minute TV special.
“CBC is quickly emerging as a front-runner in digital innovation,” said Kim Wilson, creative head of children’s and youth programming, in a statement.
“We’re proud to be contributing to innovative new multi-platform initiatives with the incorporation of web-based Ruby Skye P.I. to Kids’ CBC,” she added.
The Canadian web series, which has drawn 2.5 million views at home, is also being shopped to U.S. broadcasters and digital platforms by Seiffert Media Advisors, the U.S. boutique distributor and advisory firm, as it enters its third season of production under executive producer Janice Dawe of Swing Media.
Confession, the 10-part web series of 5- to 7-minute episodes created by and starring Kiefer Sutherland, earlier streamed in Canada on Hulu and on CTV.ca in Canada.
