Showtime is staying in business with Dexter showrunner Scott Buck. Entertainment president David Nevins announced during Tuesday’s Television Critics Association press tour that the network has signed the executive producer for a two-year overall deal — a rare move for Showtime.
“For the last seven seasons, Scott has helped shepherd Dexter, the most valuable and lucrative franchise we have ever had,” said Nevins. “We really wanted to remain in business with Scott, and we are looking forward to getting to work with him on a number of new projects. I’m incredibly excited to see what he has up his sleeve.”
Buck is already developing several projects for Showtime, including an adaptation of Matthew Specktor‘s novel American Dream Machine with Dexter star Michael C. Hall also onboard to executive produce. He is currently supervising the script being penned by Specktor.
Six Feet Under and Rome are among Buck’s other big TV credits. His role writing and producing the latter earned him one of his two Peabody Awards. He moved to Dexter in 2007.
Nevins would not speak much to the possibility of a Dexter spinoff, but he did imply that one is very much on the table. “Of course,” he said. “We just signed a deal with Scott Buck… draw your own conclusions.”
Buck is repped by CAA.
