VANCOUVER – CBC broadcast topper Kirstine Stewart has left the Canadian public broadcaster to run Twitter Canada. The announcement fittingly was made Monday on the Twitter site.
“So happy to have @kirstinestewart as our new Managing Director of Canada!,” the social media giant tweeted.
Stewart leaves her post as executive vp of CBC’s English services to run the social media giant’s Canadian office.
“I will miss the CBC family dearly, but I know that even when one leaves the CBC, the CBC never really leaves you. It’s in my DNA and I’m all the better for it,” Stewart said in a statement.
The departure comes during a period of cost-cutting and retrenchment at the CBC, which faces stiff competition from private broadcast rivals here.
As a replacement for Stewart if found, Neil McEneaney, general manager, finance and strategy, will fill in on an interim basis.
