NBC has renewed The Celebrity Apprentice.
Donald Trump revealed the news via Twitter to his more than 2.2 million followers on Sunday afternoon: “I AM PLEASED TO INFORM YOU THAT CELEBRITY APPRENTICE HAS BEEN RENEWED FOR ANOTHER SEASON BY NBC. SEE YOU AT THE NBC UPFRONTS TOMORROW.”
The renewal would bring the long-running entrepreneurial competition series hosted and executive produced by Trump to a 14th season. NBC will hold its upfront presentation in New York on Monday morning.
The current season, the show’s sixth, marked its first “All Star” edition, with 14 competitors returning for another shot at winning and competing for charity. Four stars remain — rapper Lil Jon, country singer Trace Adkins, actress Lisa Rinna and illusionist Penn Jillette — with the winner to be named in next Sunday’s live finale.
The series got its start in 2004 with non-celebrity competitors vying for a job at the Trump Organization. Since the show moved to such a format, there has been only one non-celebrity edition, as the stars have proven to be a bigger draw for audiences.
The news comes hours after NBC released its 2013-14 television schedule, which did not have Celebrity Apprentice slotted for fall or midseason. It is unclear when the new season will air. The network had indicated that they would decide on the future of Celebrity Apprentice and scripted drama Hannibal in the coming weeks.
Celebrity Apprentice‘s renewal comes just six months after the outspoken Trump made headlines for a rant about President Barack Obama‘s re-election, calling it a “disgusting injustice,” among other jabs at the Democrat.
Still to be determined is the fate of NBC’s unscripted offering Fashion Star, which just wrapped up its second season Friday.
