SACRAMENTO COUNTY-

It seems life on on the American River Parkway can move at the speed of light.

Now, you’d better change that to a speeding ticket. Sacramento County Park Rangers have LIDAR. It’s a cousin to the radar that nabs you speeding down Interstate 5 and it’s being used to enforce a new speed limit, 15 miles per hour.

Sergeant Randy Lewis says the law isn’t aimed at the recreational rider, it’s aimed at the speed demons.

“The people who are going 16 or 17 miles an hour, you probably aren’t going to hear anything from us,” Lewis told FOX40. “We’ve been experiencing a lot of accidents due to excessive speeds. Sometimes, you get the real serious bicyclists that are doing pace lines or a peloton like group that are riding really fast.”

Before you strap on your helmet and clip into those pedals, consider this, the fine is $50.
