Michael Mahan has been named president of DC Media, the parent company of Dick Clark Productions, company CEO Allen Shapiro said Tuesday.
Mahan will oversee company operations including acquisitions, business affairs, finance and foreign distribution.
The new position reunites Mahan with both Dick Clark and Shapiro. Prior to 2007, when the company was sold to a group backed by Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder, Mahan was senior vp corporate development at DCP.
“It’s such a pleasure to welcome Michael back into the DCP family,” said Shapiro. “His track record of creating value will be invaluable as we take Dick Clark Productions to the next level. We’re all looking forward to launching this new chapter with him.”
“Michael’s appointment signals the intention of DC Media to structure a robust management team designed to both build and acquire a bouquet of assets to fuel the company’s strategic growth,” said Peter Guber, chairman of Dick Clark Productions. “Michael is an extremely talented executive who will spearhead that growth.”
Mahan played a role in DCP’s 2007 sale, and afterward he continued to serve on the DCP board for a time.
After he left DCP in 2007, Mahan served as president of TV Guide Network and TVGuide.com. He is credited with helping transition the TV Guild Network from a utility that provided video and listings to a full-screen entertainment channel now available in 81 million homes.
In September 2012, DCP was sold to Guggenheim Partners. As part of that transition, Shapiro returned as CEO and Guber was named chairman. The Hollywood Reporter is also owned by a company created by Guggenheim Partners.
Mahan is also co-owner of Direct Holdings Global, a direct-response company which marketed the Time-Life brand of products on television.
Previously, Mahan spent three years at CDP Capital Entertainment, a division of Caisse de Dépôt,, where he was involved in private equity transactions in media and entertainment. He began his career as an investment banker at Bear Stearns and has done business development for eWanted.com and Checkout.com. He was also on the board of Lakeshore Productions.
DCP, founded 45 years ago by the late Dick Clark, is best known for producing numerous show business events and award shows including the Golden Globes, American Music Awards and the Academy of Country Music Awards, which aired Sunday on CBS.
