POISED FOR THE TOP: Fantasia gave a bravura performance of her current single, “Lose to Win,” on last Thursday’s results show, and people noticed. Before her return to the American Idol stage, the season three winner had been garnering airplay with this first single from her new album, Side Effects of You. “Lose to Win” had reached No. 7 on the airplay-based Adult R&B chart (this week the song rebounds 8-6, achieving a new peak position).
But this week, the single debuts on a number of sales-based charts, thanks to that Idol performance. On Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Songs, “Lose to Win” is a new entry at No. 33. On the main Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, which is based on sales and airplay, “Lose to Win” bows at No. 38. And on the Bubbling Under the Hot 100 chart, the song debuts at No. 2, indicating a forthcoming debut on the Hot 100 itself.
“Lose to Win” is bound to move up next week, thanks to the release of the parent album, which will make its debut on a number of charts, possibly upping Fantasia’s total of Billboard No. 1s (at the moment she has 32, good enough for fourth place among Idols with the most chart-toppers. The only Idols who have more are Kelly Clarkson (82), Carrie Underwood (66) and Chris Daughtry (39 for his group Daughtry).
Billboard is predicting that Side Effects of You will enter The Billboard 200 album chart at No. 2. That gives the set an excellent chance of debuting at No. 1 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.
‘GONE’ AT LAST: Phillip Phillips’ first single, “Home,” topped 10 different Billboard charts, giving the follow-up huge shoes to fill. So whoever chose “Gone, Gone, Gone” as the Idol champ’s second single must be smiling right now. This week, triple-“Gone” makes a 4-1 jump on the Triple A (Adult Album Alternative) survey. “Home” had a six-week reign on this same chart in November-December 2012.
By topping the Triple A chart, “Gone, Gone, Gone” gives Idol its 384th No. 1. The single is Phillips’ 12th No. 1, putting him in a tie with Clay Aiken for eighth place among all Idols with the most chart-topping titles.

One more note about “Home”: if you thought that song was descending everywhere after 11 months on the charts, you thought wrong. The track re-enters the Hot Digital Songs tally at No. 74 and holds at No. 3 on Adult Contemporary. On the Canadian Hot 100, “Home” makes a big rebound, leaping up 33-24.
UP WITH UNDERWOOD: Speaking of rebounds, there’s a big one for Carrie Underwood’s “Blown Away” on Country Digital Songs, where it is up 29-14. On Hot Country Songs Recurrents, “Blown Away” reclaims the top spot, which it first occupied five weeks ago for a lone week. Another Underwood track, her live recording of “How Great Thou Art,” continues to move back up the Christian Digital Songs chart, ascending 20-15.
And let’s not forget Underwood’s new single, “See You Again,” which is doing very well on Country Airplay, where it soars XX-30.
BITS AND PIECES: Jason Castro’s Only a Mountain re-enters the Top Christian Albums chart at No. 40… Kelly Clarkson’s new single “People Like Us” debuts on the Adult Top 40 chart at No. 30 and on Hot Dance Club Play at No. 32… Elsewhere on Hot Dance Club Play, Leah LaBelle’s “Lolita”continues to rise, with a hike of 28-25…Casey James’ third single, “The Good Life,” is having a good time, up 60-57 on Country Airplay… Scotty McCreery also has a new single. “See You Tonight” debuts at No. 59 on Country Airplay.
