CITRUS HEIGHTS-

Citrus Heights Police shut down an Auburn Boulevard shopping complex for a time to investigate a reported suspicious package.

The complex is near the Sylvan Middle School parking lot and was shut down around 3:30 p.m.

By 4:50 p.m., the scene was reportedly cleared. An explosive ordinance disposal team took over the investigation and took the suspicious item with them.

Later, police reported that someone had dropped off a hand grenade at a donation center in the area.

Investigation found that the item was in fact a pineapple grenade that was attached to a military-style rifle launcher. The EOD team wrapped the grenade in a blanket and took it to a secure location.
