BUCHEON, South Korea – The Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival’s It Project market has named the Japan-Poland film Baby as the winner of its grand prize this year.
In a ceremony marking the conclusion of the four-day Network of Asian Fantastic Films event, Baby – to be directed by Japan’s Kei Ishikawa and produced by Poland’s Weronika Czolnowska – was given the Bucheon Award, which carries with it a cash prize of 15 million won.
Meanwhile, the Taiwanese entry Green Field Lane No. 1 – the brainchild of producer Tony Yang and director Lee Chung – and the Philippine project Ruined Heart! Another Love Story Between a Criminal and a Whore, from filmmaker Khavn de la Cruz and producer Achinette Villamor, each netted 10 million won by winning the NAFF and It Project Awards, respectively.
The Hanmac Cultural Award, with a cash prize of $10,000, went to the U.S.-South Korea project Glutton. Three other South Korean projects were also honored, with Kim Jho Gwang-soo’s The Secret Inspector and The Vampire winning 5 million won. Asylum and Capsule nabbed postproduction support awards, alongside Hong Kong project Cherry Returns.
