Regal Entertainment Group earned an adjusted 36 cents per share in the second quarter, up from 25 cents a year ago as revenue rose 17 percent to $842.3 million.
Regal had been expected to earn 33 cents a share on $839 million revenue.

Revenue from admissions rose 15 percent to $571 million while concessions revenue was up 18 percent to $227.7 million.
Amy Miles, CEO of Regal, which operates the nation’s largest chain of movie theaters, called the second-quarter box-office environment “healthy.” Hit movies during the quarter ending June 30 included Iron Man 3, Man of Steel and Monsters University.
Despite some high-profile flops of late, said she is “optimistic” about the current quarter.
