Arclight’s specialty Asian banner, Easternlight, has inked deals for upcoming action crime thriller Badges of Fury, starring Jet Li and Wen Zhang, to most major territories in the world, including North America to Well Go, Japan to Happinet and Germany to Constantin.
Badges of Fury is directed by first-timer Wong Tsz-ming and produced by Hong Kong veteran Chui Po-chu (Kung Fu Hustle, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon). The film is due out on mainland China on June 28.
Badges tells the story of an unlikely pair of police detectives – a clown of the department played by Wen and a surely veteran (who also happens to be a martial arts master) played by Li – who are forced to team up to track down a serial killer.

The project will serve as a reunion for Li and Wen; the duo appeared together previously in Ocean Heaven and The Sorcerer and the White Snake. While Li is well-known globally, Wen is a fast rising star in China, and most recently starred in Stephen Chow’s smash hit Journey to the West, which pulled in $201 million at the Chinese box office.
“Jet Li and Wen Zhang have a wonderful chemistry, which gets better and better over time, and it always ends up being a fun ride,” says Chui. “We are thrilled to present this film to moviegoers globally and to be releasing it theatrically in China in just a few weeks.”
“We strongly believe Badges of Fury will do well in China and the international market,” added Ying Ye, managing director of Easternlight.
