The family of a special needs girl that was molested by a school bus driver was awarded $4.75 million in a suit against the Lodi Unified School District.
Diana C., now 10, was eight years old when bus driver Richard Evans attacked her. Evans has since been convicted and is serving a 25-year sentence.
The victim’s family sued the district, saying they shouldn’t have even hired Evans, considering his troubled past.
As a delivery driver, Evans, now 61, was convicted of having sex with a prostitute for $10 and a bag of chips in 2000.
A jury found the school district 90 percent liable.
In a statement, the Lodi Unified School District said the safety of their students is their highest priority.
