SACRAMENTO-

Loyal customers like Jim Lewis have been doing business with The Beat since it opened in 1982.

It spent more than 20 at the corner of 17th and J Streets.  But new technology is finally forcing the music shop to close its doors and do business online.

“It’s too bad they’re closing,” Lewis said.

One employee of more than 10 years said they did all they could to stay open.

“I wanted us to stay open and I wanted it for Sacramento. It’s a really good music store and I was hoping we’d be able to stay open but we just couldn’t do it,” said Rita Oden-Gonzalez.

Now Lewis will have to travel elsewhere to buy his music and he says he is willing to do so.

“I’m an old soul so I don’t do the internet, so I still come here. I’m one of the dying breeds.” Lewis said. He says is a dying breed just like the old music shops.”I think they will go away but that’s the way the world is going right now internet. Books and records.”

The music shop will close at the end of the month. It will store its merchandise and will sell its entire product online.
