LONDON – Former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher says he sees his toughest competition not in brother, former band mate and longtime rival Noel, but English-Irish boy band One Direction.
“Who’s my biggest competition? One Direction,” the current leader of band Beady Eye said in a BBC interview.
Emphasized the 40-year-old: “I’m not into their music.” But Gallagher argued that the teen band, which signed with Simon Cowell‘s Syco Records after finishing third in the U.K. version of The X Factor in 2010, is “mad for it” and taking advantage of its opportunities.
“They got lucky — like we all do, I guess — and they’re just going for it,” the BBC quoted him as saying. “That’s what it’s all about, isn’t it?”
Added Gallagher: “It’s all going to end at some point. And when it ends, you want to make sure you’ve ticked all the boxes.”
Oasis broke up several years ago after a backstage altercation between the Gallagher brothers, who have since been working on separate musical projects.
Liam Gallagher has focused on his work with Beady Eye, which includes former Oasis members Andy Bell and Gem Archer, as well as Chris Sharrock. Brother Noel has been fronting Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
