STOCKTON-

Maria Cuniga watched in disbelief as a man in a maroon Chevrolet Astro van hit her son, 2-year-old Alejandro, Thursday in broad daylight.

Witnesses say the van was traveling way too fast down Jefferson and South Grant in Stockton and the little boy ran into the street.

“The guy was going a little too fast with being around a park, that’s for sure,” neighbor Joshua Urena said.

Witnesses say the driver had the nerve to go around the injured toddler, stop and then speed off.

“I yelled for him to stop,” Cuniga said.

Cuniga says doctors told her she has to monitor her son to make sure he doesn’t have any  serious head injuries

“I was scared that my son wouldn’t wake up,” she said.

Photos were shared with FOX40 by neighbors who believe they spotted the van from the crash. Stockton police who are looking into it.

As for Cuniga, a mother of six, she says this crash could’ve been fatal

“He’s so lucky.”
