Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton are back on the small screen. (And no, Lindsay Lohan isn’t involved.)
BBC America has unveiled the first trailer for Burton and Taylor, starring Dominic West as Burton and Helena Bonham Carter as Taylor. The TV film looks at the famously tumultuous relationship of the Hollywood power couple, with their 1983 roles in the revival of the play Private Lives serving as the backdrop.

The play came years after the couple divorced for the second time, prompting someone in the trailer to ask if this foretold “marriage number three” for the pair.
The 90-minute offering comes months after Lifetime aired its own take on Burton and Taylor, Liz & Dick. That project starred Lohan and Grant Bowler and debuted to 3.5 million viewers and lukewarm reviews.
“It’s an instant classic of unintentional hilarity,” wrote The Hollywood Reporter‘s chief TV critic, Tim Goodman. “By the time Lohan is playing mid-’80s Taylor, and it looks like a lost Saturday Night Live skit, your body may be cramped by convulsions.”
Jessica Pope is executive producer of Burton and Taylor, with Lachlan MacKinnon as producer. Richard Laxton directed.
Burton and Taylor premieres this fall on BBC America.
