TORONTO – Vancouver police and coroner’s services have kicked into gear investigating the sudden death of Glee star Cory Monteith in Vancouver.
“I want to pass on our condolences to the family, friends, castmates and millions of fans of Mr. Monteith,” acting police chief Doug LePard said Saturday night in a statement read out to reporters.
At the same time LePard and coroner Lisa Lapointe gave few details of their investigations beyond indicating was no sign of foul play.

“The death of a young person is a tragedy for their family, friends and community. A sudden death is more shocking and our hearts go out to the family and friends who are mourning the loss of this young man,” Ms. Lapointe said in her own statement.
The B.C. coroners service will nevertheless conduct an investigation into the sudden death to possibly establish a cause, with an autopsy on Monteith’s body planned for Monday.
Coroner staff did not attend the hotel scene on Saturday.
It is believed Monteith was alone in his hotel room at the time of his death.
The Hollywood celebrity was due to leave the hotel Saturday and cleaning staff discovered his body in his 21st floor room around noon that day after he missed his checkout time.
The police and coroners’ investigations will take place against a backdrop of global media interest, given the popularity of the Glee series.
“We know there will be considerable interest in this case, and we have detectives assigned to the case who attended with our forensic identification unit to examine the scene, to ensure to the extent possible that there are no unanswered questions,” Le Pard said.
