Anniversary:
Doug Roble, creative director of software at Digital Domain, celebrated his 20th anniversary with the company. Roble has been writing software and doing research at Digital Domain since 1993, the year it was founded. In 1999, Roble received a Technical Achievement Academy Award for his 3D tracking/scene reconstruction program, Track. In 2007 he was recognized with a Scientific and Engineering Academy Award for his work on the fluid simulation system at Digital Domain, FSIM. In 2008 he was invited to become a member of the Visual Effects branch of the Academy. He is a member of the Academy’s Scientific & Technical Awards Committee and co-chair of the Academy’s Digital Imaging Technology subcommittee.
Hired:
Tim Claman has been named chief technology officer of broadcast and postproduction equipment maker Quantel. He previously served as CTO of Avid Technology, where he spent 14 years. Earlier, he worked in postproduction.
Expansion:
Pacific Post, a provider of Avid rental equipment and editorial space, opened its new North Hollywood facility, adding to its Hollywood presence. The newly renovated Pacific Post Lankershim offers 40 edit rooms in over 21,000 square feet, connected via fiber. Additionally, Kristin Kumamoto joined the company as vice president. Earlier, she held roles at Hula Post and Orbit Digital.
