DAVIS—
A pair of state workers who were charged in a Davis indecent exposure incident are now facing federal charges of child exploitation.
U.S. Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner’s office announced the charges in a release Wednesday.
Authorities say they were alerted to Xenyi Xu, 30, and Nicholas Bowen, 61, after their arrest in Davis back in July. Xu is said to have flashed 10 to 12-year-old boys while Bowen filmed.
The two have pleaded not guilty to the charges related to that incident.
However, authorities believe that Bowen and Xu had also been sharing sexually explicit images of minors since the beginning of the year. Prosecutors also claim that Xu took pornographic pictures of her own child.
Both Bowen and Xu are still in custody. They face five to 20 years in prison if convicted on the charges. Xu also faces 15 to 30 years in prison for taking pornographic pictures of her child.
Xu reportedly works as a research analyst for the Department of Health Care Services, while Bowen works at the Department of Public Health. Both offices haven’t commented if the incident put the two’s jobs in jeopardy
