That does not do anything, but cause a PITA.

Also it can take up to around 2 weeks for us or some. To receive the Update Via OTA.

Hi,

a Nexus 4 Noob question.

can anyone point me towards how the OTA works? I googled for it but all i could find was the process by which the OTA files can be flashed using the computer.

I am in India and have a notification which says that 4.3 is available and that 167 MBs will be download via Wifi only till the 28th July. But the download is not happening at all so i wasn't sure if i needed to do anything? Also, if the files don't download by the 28th then does it mean that i will not get the OTA again?

thank you.

If you can't download it using the phone, just download the zip from your pc and sideload it using the stock recovery and adb.

But beware that the zip floating here is to upgrade the build JDQ39, and you probably have JDQ39E because you're in India. That zip won't work in that case.

You can, however, look in your log files (there are guides here for that) to get the url of the OTA zip for JDQ39E and help many other indian users to upgrade their phones via adb sideload.

Thank you for your help! I was being a bit impatient as always!
The update downloaded and prompted me to install it automatically which i did. the nexus 4 is currently getting loaded with 4.3 :D

I will search through the posts to understand how to get the URL from the logs for the India users and will post here.

thanks

I'm downloading the update now, currently on JDQ36. I was on PA, but got curious about what 4.3 has to offer so I've temporarily flashed back to full stock 4.2.2, went to see if I can get the update OTA and it was there waiting for me to download.

    Root for 4.3 leaked Nexus 4 version.

    Enable USB debugging,
    Put the file in the SD Card
    Reboot into recovery
    Wipe cache
    Wipe dalvik cache
    Install the zip file
    Reboot
    The recovery will prompt you that it will be needed to remove the stock recovery, skip it or say yes
    The recovery will try to fix root. Say yes and reboot.

    The way i see it there is no fragmentation in android (feel free to agree or not). OEM's skins are not really skins anymore, they are standalone versions of android.
    Look at the feature-list of touchwiz for example, it offers a lot more than stock android, it's not only a simple framework modification, or a change for something that already exists on stock android, no, we're talking about new features (gimmicky or not), multiwindow, all those air gestures, hovering over text and photos, smart scroll, pause..., 4 or 5 presets for tuning screen colors, totally different camera app with plethora of options not found on stock (HDR recording etc..) . Furthermore, there is support for microSD which google removed from aosp.

    My point is, people who buy samsung devices, must know that they are buying samsung's version of android, and have no right to blame google for any update system (frequent lil ones or one big update/year) , or any delays in updating their samsungs. It's not only related to updates, but in general when you buy a device that is not rocking official fully stock android (like nexus or google edition phones) , your relation is not with google, but with your OEM, and any complaints/praises/suggestions/ideas/bug report should be addressed to them. Google's stock android serves only as a reference for OEM's versions.
    => when you're buying a galaxy S or Note, you're not buying android, you're buying a samsung.
    => No fragmentation in android

    Same applies to other OEMs.
