New York ultimately may give Eliot Spitzer and Anthony Weiner a second chance, but they’re not going to get it from the “Girls.”
Lena Dunham, creator and star of the HBO hit series Girls, tweeted early Thursday that she would be throwing her support behind Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer for the comptroller job instead of Spitzer, who announced this week that he was running for the post.
“I’m a native New Yorker & I like my leaders with grit, integrity & executive realness,” Dunham wrote. “That’s why I support @stringer2013 for Comptroller.”

A few minutes later she tweeted that she was supporting mayoral candidate Christine Quinn instead of Weiner.
“I’m passionate about the idea of the first woman mayor,” she wrote. “Plus @ChriscQuinn is tough, results oriented & can handle a City as complex as NY.”
Talking Points Memo writer Tom Kludt tweeted questions to Dunham for more explanation on her support of Stringer.
“What do you like best about him? And how do his positions differ from Spitzer?” Kludt asked.
“Scott is a true progressive with a record of getting things done — New Yorkers can trust him, and that’s why he has my support,” the actress responded.
