COLOGNE, Germany – Kim Basinger is confirmed as the lead in Petit, the new English-language drama from Danish director Anders Morgenthaler (Princess).
The Oscar-winning Basinger will play Maria, a successful career woman who is told she is infertile, leading to a desperate pursuit to have a child. Her attempts to adopt eventually lead her to the criminal world of infant prostitution in Eastern Europe. Shooting on the project has just begun in Hamburg, Germany.

Basinger recently wrapped shooting on the Paul Haggis drama Third Person, in which she has a supporting role as the wife of a character played by Liam Neeson. Other recent projects include the sports comedy Grudge Match, alongside Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro, and the drama One Square Mile from Canadian filmmaker Charles-Olivier Michaud.
Jordan Prentice (In Bruges), Peter Stormare (Fargo) and German actors Sophie Rois and Sebastian Schipper, co-stars of Tom Tykwer‘s 3, co-star in Petit.
Marie Gade Denessen and Julie Lind-Holm are producing the film for Zentropa Entertainments32, in co-production with Maria Kopf for Zentropa Entertainments Berlin and Jamila Wenske and Sol Bondy for One Two Films. Zentropa’s Peter Aalbæk Jensen and Peter Nadermann of Germany’s Network Movie are executive producing. TrustNordisk is handling international sales.
Petit is set for theatrical release in 2014.
