SACRAMENTO-
You can’t fire a gun with out ammo, so the state is looking at making it harder for you to get it by requiring background checks and permits.
“The only thing you are asking the guy to do is take a test or sign up that he bought the ammo. There ain’t no safety in that, that is just controlling the outflow of the product,” said Travis Morgan.
Morgan is an owner Guns Fishing and Other Stuff in Vacaville, and says those restrictions wouldn’t work. Criminals will just get ammo the way they get guns now – by stealing it, buying it on the street, or going over the border.
“There are 49 other states they can go buy it in and bring it right back here,” said Morgan.
If California were to pass this law, they would be the first in the nation to require people to pass a background check and get a permit to buy ammo. California is usually ahead of the curve, passing gun laws years before the federal government.
“It worries me a whole lot. They start taking our rights away. We are losing our rights day by day, especially our gun rights. Nobody pays attention to it because its small chunks,” said Morgan.
There are many that believe that something needs to be done, and if there is less ammo in the hands of people, there will be less crime on the streets.
