Handing out renewals for the bulk of its unscripted roster on Tuesday morning, ABC also has ordered The Quest.
The new reality series, which has yet to receive a premiere date, pits 12 contestants against one another in a competition set in a fictional place called Everrealm. The live-action role-playing takes place in what the network describes as “a land of magic and malevolence, where mythical creatures lurk in the woods, agents of darkness stir in the shadows and mystical beings infiltrate the keep.”
STORY: ABC Schedule: ‘Once’ Spinoff to Open Thursdays; ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ on Tuesdays
The Quest has a strong competition pedigree in executive producers Bertram van Munster and Elise Doganieri, co-creators of The Amazing Race. They’re joined by EPs Mark Ordesky and Jane Fleming (Court Five) and Rob Eric and Michael Williams (Green Harbor Productions).
Another new entry announced by ABC on Tuesday is a TV special tied to Disney-Pixar’s Toy Story franchise. Toy Story of Terror, which takes the film characters to a creepy roadside motel, includes the voice talent of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Carl Weathers, Timothy Dalton, Don Rickles, Wallace Shawn and Kristen Schaal.
It will see a premiere timed to Halloween.
