The Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira has signed with UTA.
The actress plays the mysterious katana-wielding zombie slayer Michonne, a fan favorite in the comic books, joining the AMC drama as a series regular in its recently completed third season. Previously, she recurred on HBO’s Treme and made guest appearances on Lie to Me, Law & Order and Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
In January, she earned praise for her role as a Nigerian immigrant struggling to conceive a baby in the Sundance competition feature Mother of George. The film has been picked up by Oscilloscope for a September release. Gurira made her feature debut in 2007’s acclaimed indie drama The Visitor, playing one half of the undocumented couple that moves in with Richard Jenkins’ lonely protagonist.
Gurira’s career started on the stage, where she won an Obie Award and Outer Critics Circle Award for writing the off-Broadway play In the Continuum, also collecting a Helen Hayes Award for Best Lead Actress. She made her Broadway debut in 2009’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone and played Isabella at the New York Shakespeare Festival’s presentation of Measure for Measure in 2011. She won the L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award in writing in March for her most recent play, The Convert.
Gurira continues to be repped by Suskin Management.
