FX announced Tuesday that its nabbed the commercial TV premiere rights to Marvel blockbuster Iron Man 3. The film raked in the second-biggest opening of all time this past weekend with $175.3 million.
“I’m really pleased with the quality and variety of films we’ve acquired so far this year,” said FX Networks executive vp and FXM gm Chuck Saftler. “Iron Man 3 is a massive success and that franchise has performed incredibly well for our networks. The success of Iron Man 3 along with the other titles we’ve purchased this year bodes well for future success on our three networks.”

Among those films are nine others that have recently topped the box office. Pain and Gain (Paramount), Oblivion (Universal), The Croods (DreamWorks Animation/FOX), A Good Day to Die Hard (FOX), Evil Dead (Sony), Identity Thief (Universal), Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (Paramount), Mama (Universal) and Oscar nominee Zero Dark 30 will also see their commercial TV debuts on FX. All will join FX’s catalog in mid-to-late 2015
FX capitalized on the Iron Man hype this past weekend by airing Iron Man 2 on Sunday. It ranked as basic cable’s top performer of the night in total viewers and the key 18-49 demo with a respective 3.26 million and 1.75 million viewers.
