TOKYO – CGI house Marza Animation Planet is to produce Robodog, directed by Henry F. Anderson III (Gnomeo & Juliet), and plans to turn out a feature a year, according to new CEO Masanao Maeda.
Marza has previously carried out animation production for other companies, but now intends to work with original screenplays and also tap into Sega-Sammy’s extensive content catalog.

“Sega-Sammy has a lot of very well known properties such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Virtua Fighter, but I think the majority of our films will be based on original ideas,” Maeda, former head of Sega America, told The Hollywood Reporter.
The productions will be targeted at the international market, and will be developed with English scripts, according to Maeda, who will be heading back from the U.S. to be based at Marza’s Tokyo headquarters beginning in July.
“Marza is half Japanese and half American,” according to Maeda, who said he wants the company’s productions to combine the best of each culture.
