It’s the moment Wedding Crashers fans have been waiting for: Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson return to the big screen as a pair of fast-talking, scene-stealing buddies who attempt to navigate their way through a new world in Twentieth Century Fox’s The Internship.
The duo arrived in style to the red carpet premiere of their latest, rolling up to Westwood’s Regency Village Theatre on Wednesday in the backseat of a Google Maps street vehicle. In the film, co-written and produced by Vaughn, the actors play a pair of down-on-their-luck salesmen who talk their way into an internship at Google headquarters near San Francisco.
“There’s a lot of optimism to the movie,” Vaughn told reporters on the carpet. “The movie is very funny and there’s a lot of fun turns and comedy, but I think [it’s] really a movie that is about something that’s going on.”

The film clearly hits on the hardships facing millions of Americans that have lost their jobs in the current economy, or who have failed to adapt to the ever-changing advancements in technology, veiled with the improv-heavy humor of Vaughn and Wilson.
“I think what’s nice is you see the coming together of these guys. They may not have the traditional tech skills, but they have common sense and they kind of learn from each other,” said Vaughn, whose wife, Kyla Weber — flaunting her growing baby bump in a flowing peach gown — joined him on the carpet. “I think it’s fun when you see people who are faced with hard challenges in life that choose to try and be optimistic and go with the changes and do their best to find a place to belong.”
Director Shawn Levy described the editing process as “painstaking,” recalling poring over hours of outtakes and crackups on set. “A lot of the funniest stuff wasn’t scripted or planned,” he told THR.

Noted co-star Jessica Szohr, who spent her first day on-set in lingerie and a pair of seven-inch heels as a stripper: “I’m happy Vince is as tall as he is, cause I couldn’t look at his face. I had to look at his chest to get through the scene.”
What’s the secret to Vaughn and Wilson’s chemistry? Said Levy, “They’re so completely different in manner, in voice, in rhythm, and conflict and difference creates good comedy.”
The Internship opens nationwide June 7.
