Freestyle Releasing and Freestyle Digital Media have acquired coming-of-age film A True Story, directed by Malcolm Goodwin.
The film has been slated for theatrical and VOD day-and-date release in September, with a exact date to be announced soon.
Written by Cameron Fife and Tyler McGee, the film follows two broke Hollywood writers (Fife and McGee) who, while waiting for their big break, deal with the trials and tribulations of dating, friendship and aspiring to work in the industry. The pic was produced by Goodwin, Fife and McGee.
Goodwin, who was featured on A&E’s Breakout Kings, also stars in A True Story, along with Katrina Bowden (30 Rock), Kelen Coleman (The Mindy Project), Keith Loneker (Lakeview Terrace) and Jon Gries (Napoleon Dynamite). Goodwin’s acting credits include American Gangster, Miracle at St. Anna and Leatherheads.
“This is a fun and honest film about two guys chasing their Hollywood dreams while trying to survive the nightmares in their everyday life. It’s a true labor of love, fueled by the fact that every artist involved in the process of making this film has at some point been in our two main characters’ shoes,” said Goodwin.
FDM’s Susan Jackson brokered the DVD/VOD deal with the producer’s rep Bill Vergos of Spy Filmz on behalf of Team Awesome Films.
