ROCKLIN-
The Placer County District Attorney announced Monday that no charges will be filed in the deadly stabbing of a man at a party in Rocklin.
Investigators say 51-year-old Robert Vickney Jr. was stabbed during a fight with 20-year-old Zachary Kachmar on July 13. Witnesses reported that Vickney was upset with Kachmar over a broken shot glass.
Witnesses also said Vickney was very intoxicated, according to the district attorney.
The DA’s office says that other people at the party, including Vickney’s son, said Vickney began choking Kachmar, who was sitting down at the time. Investigators say Kachmar did not arm himself with a knife during the confrontation, but was already holding one to “shotgun” a beer.
Prosecutors feel they are unable to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Kachmar acted with malice and had intended to kill Vickner, the district attorney’s office said in a news release.
