Screenwriter Dustin Lance Black has been selected to receive the 14th Lew and Pamela Hunter/Jonathan and Janice Zakin Chair Holder in Screenwriting Award, which is given annually by the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television.
The award will be presented April 30 at UCLA’s James Bridges Theater as part of an evening that will include a screening of the Oscar-winning Milk and a Q&A with Black.
The award, established in 1999, requires that the recipient teach a 10-week screenwriting seminar at UCLA/TFT. This fall, Black taught a course in which eight graduate students wrote their own feature-length screenplays.
In addition to an Academy Award for Milk, Black has won two WGA Awards for HBO’s Big Love. His recent play 8 re-creates the federal trial that led to an appellate court’s overturn of California’s Prop. 8.
